Shakira, the Colombian music sensation, has reportedly paid a sum of 6.6 million euros to a Spanish court as part of an investigation into alleged unpaid taxes, according to her agent’s statement on Friday.

This development comes shortly after she successfully negotiated a deal to avoid trial in another tax-related case.

The 46-year-old artist faced a second tax fraud case initiated by Spanish prosecutors in July, alleging that she utilized a network of companies, some situated in tax havens, to evade approximately 6.6 million euros in taxes for the year 2018, inclusive of interest and adjustments.

Shakira’s payment in August, as confirmed by her representing agency and reported by El Periodico, amounts to 6.6 million euros. It is essential to note that this payment doesn’t establish guilt or innocence but is portrayed as “another demonstration of her willingness to repay her possible debts to the Spanish tax authorities.”

In a separate development, the renowned “Hips Don’t Lie” singer reached a last-minute settlement with Spanish prosecutors, preventing a trial for tax fraud related to her income between 2012 and 2014. As part of this agreement, Shakira consented to pay a fine of 7.3 million euros, equivalent to 50 percent of the unpaid tax amount. Prior to this settlement, she had already remitted 17.45 million euros to settle her tax situation in this particular case.

Shakira, who had initially rejected a prosecutors’ offer, explained in a statement that her decision to settle was driven by the best interests of her children, expressing a desire to shield them from witnessing their mother sacrificing her personal well-being in the legal battle. The singer relocated to Miami with her two sons in April following her separation from former FC Barcelona star defender Gerard Pique.
