Bollywood actress Kanagana Ranaut and her sister gain relief as Bombay High Court states that she will be not be subject to any coercive actions about the investigation regarding the charges of sedition put on her.

This comes on 11th January 2021 via a two-judge bench of Justices S S Shinde and Manish Pitale regarding the petition filed by the two sisters seeking to quash charges and the order that passed the charges, against them.

The charges were filed by one Sahil Ashraf Ali Sayyed and were passed by the Bandra Magistrate’s Court on grounds that the two sisters were spreading communal tensions and hatreds in the public.

While they were interrogated by the police for two hours, Kangana later left citing professional issues, which was cited as “non-cooperation with the police” by Public prosecutor Deepak Thakre. On being asked by the courts as to how much time cooperation would require, Thakre said at least 3-5 days were necessary for the ordeal.

Meanwhile Sayyed’s lawyer has asked for some time to draft and affidavit hearing which the courts gave the decision to adjourn till January 25th.

Both advocates stated above have also told the court that Ranaut had ignored the assurance that she gave about not posting online and has since posted many messages including one of how she was being tortured on the same day as her interrogation.
