SC issues notice to Kerela Govt Challenging Minority scholarship scheme

The Supreme Court of India issued a notice on special leave Petition filed by the State of Kerela challenging the High Court’s Order on October 29th. The Order quashed the scheme of Government to provide Minority Scholarship to Muslims and Christians in a 80:20 ratio. The State of Kerala filed a Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court.

A Bench with Justices L Nageswara Rao and BR Gavai also issued a notice on the application. They seeked stay on judgement of the High Court.

The State of Kerela was represented by Senior Advocate Chander Uday Singh. Whereas, Advocate Harees Beeran appeared for one of the Petitions, pressed for a stay.

“Mr.Beeran, we are not going to stay now. We will issue notice on stay”, Justice Rao said.

Advocate Beeran said that he wanted to point out the scheme was in operation for 13 years before the High Court Quashed it.

 “If you press it, we will dismiss your stay application”, Justice Rao said.

The notice is now returnable within 4 weeks.
