The Supreme Court of India granted interim protection to ALT Balaji owner Ekta Kapoor in a plea against the episode of her produced web series – XXX Uncensored.

Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh High Court had passed an order which declined to quash the FIR filed against the produced.

The Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice Sharad A Bobde heard the appeal.

Charges made against Ekta Kapoor included IPC sections 294 (obscene songs and acts) and 298 (uttering words to hurt religious sentiments) and under Section 67 and 67(A) of the IT Act.

A resident from Indore had filed a complaint against the producer, alleging that the content of XXX season was spreading obscenity and caused grave hurt to religious sentiments.

The accuser had also mentioned a scene from the series where a man was shown wearing the army uniform. He said that the army uniform was objectionable in many ways.

A single bench of Justice Shailendra Shukla of the Madhya Pradesh High Court had stated that there was a prima facie case against Ekta Kapoor and refused to quash the FIR.
