The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) shifted the probe of the infamous cruise drugs case and five others, to its operations unit in Delhi from the agency’s Mumbai zonal branch, led by Sameer Wankhede, officials stated on 5th November, 2021.

The move was done on “Administrative Grounds,” and since these six had “Wider and inter-state ramifications,” NCB Deputy Director General (north-west region) Mutha Ashok Jain told PTI.

Sameer Wankhede was charged with Extortion and Fraudulent use of a caste card to acquire his position by a Maharashtra Minister and senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader.

The Senior Officer was summoned to Delhi shortly after, and a team from Delhi was dispatched to Mumbai to investigate the extortion claims. The Senior Officer will continue to be the Zonal Director.

Speaking to reporters, Wankhede stated, “I’ve not been removed from the investigation. It was my writ petition in court that the matter is probed by a central agency. So Aryan case & Sameer Khan case are being probed by Delhi NCB’s SIT. It’s coordination between NCB teams of Delhi and Mumbai.”

NCB’s Delhi team will reach Mumbai on 7th November and Senior Police Officer Sanjay Singh will lead the Special Investigation Team.
