Prominent Political Commentator Badri Seshadri Granted Bail After Arrest Over Controversial YouTube Interview on Manipur Violence

Prominent Political Commentator and Publisher, Badri Seshadri, has been granted bail by a Court in Tamil Nadu after his recent arrest. He was taken into custody following an FIR filed against him for remarks he made in a YouTube interview regarding the Manipur violence and Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.

The Court of Judicial Magistrate Court, Kunnam, rejected the Tamil Nadu Police’s application for custody of Badri Seshadri and released him on bail. The FIR was registered at the Kunnam Police Station in Perambalur District under Sections 153, 153 A (1) (a), and 505 (1) (b) of the IPC, leading to his arrest on July 29 around 5 am.

During the court hearing, Advocate M Ramamoorthi and others represented Badri Seshadri, while the APP for the State admitted that they did not serve notice under Section 41A before arresting him. As part of his bail conditions, Badri is required to stay within the limits of Sri Rangam area and appear before the Judicial Magistrate Court at Sri Rangam until further orders.

In the controversial YouTube interview, Badri reportedly made remarks questioning the Supreme Court’s involvement in governance and suggested placing a gun in the hands of CJI Chandrachud to handle the violence in Manipur. The complainant in the case, Advocate Kaviyarasu, accused Badri of tarnishing the dignity of the Supreme Court and the country’s judiciary.

Badri Seshadri, aged 58, is the founder of Kizhakku Pathippagam, a leading publishing house in Tamil Nadu.
