PM Modi Commends CJI Chandrachud for Address in Gujarati at Inauguration of Rajkot District Court Building

During a momentous event in Rajkot, Chief Justice of India, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, inaugurated a new district court building, signaling a new phase in the region’s judicial framework.

A significant highlight of the ceremony was CJI Chandrachud’s outreach to the local community through his address in Gujarati, an act that garnered widespread praise, including commendation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Expressing his admiration, PM Modi shared his thoughts on a social media platform, posting a video from the event on ‘Gujarat Tak.’ He praised the Chief Justice’s efforts to engage with the people of Rajkot, stating, “Our Honorable Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has aptly connected with the essence of Rajkot! His commendable gesture of speaking in Gujarati and engaging with the local community deserves recognition.”

During the event, CJI Chandrachud also lauded Gujarat’s cultural heritage and the unique entrepreneurial spirit of its inhabitants, sentiments echoed by PM Modi. The Chief Justice highlighted Rajkot’s adeptness at blending modernity with its rich cultural traditions, humorously mentioning, “Even a Gujarati tea break can transform into a business strategy meeting,” underscoring the inherent business acumen of the Gujarati community.

CJI Chandrachud added, “Every facet of life here resonates with an entrepreneurial spirit. Beyond jest, Gujarat’s progress hinges on this very trait. Similar to its people, Rajkot has embraced changes while preserving its cultural heritage. Genuine development lies in merging culture with innovation.”

The newly inaugurated five-story district court building in Rajkot stands as a significant achievement, accommodating courtrooms, judges’ chambers, a video conferencing hall, government lawyers’ offices, a canteen, a library, and a bar room.

This consolidation, uniting 39 dispersed courts under one roof, is anticipated to streamline judicial procedures, enhancing facilities for court personnel and litigants, a crucial development for Rajkot’s residents.

In his address, CJI Chandrachud emphasized, “The inauguration of this court building signifies not only a stride towards judicial modernization but also mirrors Gujarat’s progressive ethos, blending modernity with tradition.”
