NGT forms committee to look into Gujarat Chemical Factory Fire case

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) forms a four-member committee to look into the Gujarat chemical plant fire incident United Phosphorus Ltd. (UPL) agrochemical plant fire that occurred last week.

The NGT bench headed by Justice AK Goel took cognizance of a media report about the incident and sent notices to the Ministry of Environment and Forests and other related authorities.

A major fire and blast at the UPL’s plant in Jhagadia had resulted in the death of two persons and left 26 others injured with 5 labourers still missing.

The bench has decided to create a four-member committee which would have the CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board), State pollution control board, DISH (Director Industrial Safety and Health), and the district magistrate of Bharuch.

The matter is listed for further hearing.
