On Monday, a Mumbai-based Court denied Bail to two Police Inspector arrested for having a connection in an extortion case.

The Magistrate Court refused to grant Bail to Nandkumar Gopale and Asha Korke who were arrested by the state Crime Investigation Department (CID) on November 8 after discovering their link in the case against former City Police Chief Param Bir Singh.

Both of them were arrested by CID after a Bhayander-based Businessman Sham Sundar Agarwal filed a complaint against them as well as five other Police Officers.

After the first hearing, the Court sent them to seven days of Police Custody , after another hearing on November 16, the Court sent Nand Kumar Gopale and Asha Korke to judicial custody for 14 days.

Both of them, filed a Bail Application just after the Court ordered their Judicial Custody.

However, Esplanade Court in Mumbai rejected their Application stating that the investigation is yet not over and that’s why they cannot be granted Bail.

Advocate Aniket Nikam, appearing for Accused-Appellants stated that while Korke has a clean record throughout her service period, Gopale is a reputed officer.

At the end he stated that they will be soon moving to a Sessions Court challenging this order.

Adding to this, he also stated that Gopale has been credited for solving a lot of sensational cases including IPL betting racket and 26/11 terror case and that’s why they expected Bail.

It should be noted here that on Monday, the Supreme Court granted protection to Param Bir Singh from arrest in all kind of cases filed against him in Maharashtra and has asked him to join the ongoing probe.
