Punjab government was issued a notice by the Punjab Haryana High Court over the application of Anticipatory Bail filed by Bikram Singh Majithia, the leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Majithia was not granted relief by the High Court.

The matter was heard by the Bench of Justice Lisa Gill. The Bench issued a notice to the State for January 10 after hearing to the arguments by Majithia’s Counsel. A reply is to be filed by the State before the Court by January 8, 2022.

Majithia was booked by the Punjab Police for allegedly being involved in a drug case. He contended, “To target the Petitioner is one of the major election planks of the current government. To fulfill its election stunt, the Congress government in Punjab has been day and night browbeating officers to register false cases against the senior leadership of SAD, including the Petitioner.”

Majithia apprehended Arrest after a case was registered under the provisions of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at Mohali on December 20, 2021. After his Anticipatory Bail Petition got dismissed by the Mohali Court, he moved to the High Court.

The Petition read, “It is more than apparent that the present FIR has been registered against the Petitioner keeping an eye on the forthcoming elections. The Petitioner’s fundamental rights are at stake.”
