Madras High Court has Ordered the Director of Rural Development to direct their subordinates to crush down the meat shops being operated in the State without a valid licence and file Criminal Cases against the ones who slaughter animals without abiding proper rules and regulations.

Justice SM Subramaniam called for strict executions of the Tamil Nadu Village Panchayats Rules, 1999 (Prohibition of the use of places for slaughtering animals and licensing of slaughterers).

He also forced the Authorities to commence disciplinary action against the Officials to fail to take any action against the meat shops running without licence.

The Court passed these Orders while hearing the Writ Petition filed in 2015 complaining about the meat shop operating without licence at Panagal village in Nagapattinam district.

While agreeing to the litigant on the pint that officials do not take any strict action against the violators that often lead to health hazards, Justice Subramaniam stated,

“Health being the basic right of every citizen, any such complaint given by the people of a locality must be looked into and swift actions must be initiated without any delay”,
