The former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad granted bail by Jharkhand High Court on Saturday in the Dumka treasury case, one of the three main cases in the multi-crore fodder scam, paving the way for his release from jail.

Justice Aparesh Kumar SIngh granted the bail order to Lalu Prasad Yadav with the direction of neither to leave the country without permission nor change his address and mobile number during the bail period.

Dumka treasury case was the last of four fodder scam-related cases where the Rashtriya Janata Dal leader had been convicted. He had acquired bail in three other cases of the fodder scam.

All the cases were related to withdrawal of money from government treasury by the animal husbandry department of Bihar between 1991 and 1996 when Yadav was the chief minister of the state.

In all these cases, he was granted bail on the ground of having served half-sentence of the total term awarded to him.

“The Bench of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh granted bail to Prasad on the condition that he would furnish two sureties of ₹1 lakh each and ₹10 lakh fine amount before the court ,” said CBI’s Counsel and Assistant Solicitor-General Rajiv Sinha.

Lalu Prasad Yadav had been serving the jail term since December 2017. He spent most of his jail term at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, for medical treatment. RJD leader is in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, for treatment since January this year.
