Special CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) Court found Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav guilty for Rs 139.35 crore Doranda treasury embezzlement Case. According to a CBI counsel, the sentence will be given on February 18.
The Special CBI Judge S K Shashi’s Court had completed the hearing against 99 Accused, along with Prasad, which had been ongoing since February 2021.
Apart from Prasad, the main Accused include former MP Jagdish Sharma, the then-chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Dhruv Bhagat, Animal Husbandry Secretary Beck Julius, and Animal Husbandry Assistant Director Dr K M Prasad.
Of the initial 170 defendants in the Case, 55 have died, seven have become Government Witnesses, two have acknowledged the Charges against them, and six have fled the country.
Despite the fact that the CBI had registered 64 Cases in correlation with the multi-billion-dollar scam, Lalu was made a party in six of them, five of which were relocated to Jharkhand following Bihar’s bifurcation and one was dealt with in Patna.
Previously, Lalu was found guilty in all four Cases in the Jharkhand BI Court.
“We are the ones who brought this matter to light. We approached Patna High Court, demanding a CBI inquiry. I am happy that those who looted Bihar are being punished” Former Bihar deputy CM and BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi stated.
