The Kerala High Court has initiated suo moto action against the police due to their alleged failure to protect a petitioner. Single Bench Justice N Nagaresh, who presided over the case, strongly criticized the police for disregarding the court’s protection order and failing to ensure the safety of Raj Mohan, a bus owner.

This incident took place during an ongoing wage hike protest in Kumarakom, where Raj Mohan sought the court’s assistance for protection. Despite the court’s intervention, the police reportedly did not provide adequate security, resulting in an unfortunate incident where Raj Mohan was slapped by a member of the CITU in front of the police.

The accused was subsequently arrested but later released on bail. The State Police Chief and the Station House Officer (SHO) confirmed the arrest and release in an affidavit. The court has scheduled further proceedings on July 18, 2023.
