Karni Sena files PIL in Allahabad High Court seeking Ban on Release of movie ‘Prithiviraj’

Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena’s National Vice President (Women Wing), Sangeeta Singh filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Allahabad High Court against the release of movie ‘Prithviraj’.

The Bench hearing the Plea comprised of Justices Attau Rahman Masoodi and Narendra Kumar Johari.

Singh, who is a practicing Lawyer in the Supreme Court Alleged that the film was titled as Prithviraj’ instead of ‘Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan’ which hurts the religious sentiments and beliefs of the Rajput community, and also passes a wrong message to the society.

The Plea stated that by titling the film as ‘Prithviraj’, the Respondents had shown disrespect towards the great king and had hurt the sentiments on Hindus across the country. They also Defamed and degraded the Hindu King.

Besides the Central Government and the State Government, Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Aditya Chopra, Akshay Kumar, and M/s Yash Raj Films Private Limited have also been arrayed as Respondent parties in the Case.

The Plea also objected the attire worn by the actress Manushi Chillar in the film, who played the role of Queen Sanyogita. It was also Alleged that the film was made with a Mala Fide intention of gaining profits and disregarding the historical facts.

On February 2, 2022, the Bench had asked the Central Government whether the film had been approved by the Central Board of Film Certification.

The Plea stated that no action had been taken by the State Government and the Central Government even when several representations had been made to stop the shooting of the film.

The matter is listed on last week of February 2022.
