The Karnataka High Court, on January 12, called out the BJP led government to explain how the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) was being allowed to hold the 10-days long ‘Walk for Water’ march amid the rising cases of Omicron variant.

Apparently, the Congress in Karnataka organized a 100 Km ‘Walk for Water’ march from Mekedatu in Ramanagara district, demanding construction of a balancing reservoir across the Cauvery river for drinking water needs of Bengaluru and neighbouring districts.

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in Karnataka High Court by activist Nagendra Prasad A V raising concerns over the possible aftermath of the march in the present covid situation.

While hearing the PIL, a Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi asked the KPCC to inform the Court whether due permissions were taken for the rally and whether they were taking all necessary precautions to ensure compliance of the Covid protocol, guidelines and standard operating procedure issued by the state government.

The Bench further questioned the BJP led government in the state as to why the rally by KPCC was being permitted to continue and also why no action was taken by the state authorities to restrain KPCC from any such activities.
