Justice Arun Kumar Mishra takes charge as new Chairman of National Human Rights Commission

Former Supreme Court judge, Justice Arun Kumar Mishra on June 2nd joined as the new chairman of the National Human Rights Commission of India.

Justice Mishra had retired from the apex court in September of last year.

The post of NHRC chief had been vacant since Justice H. L. Dattu had completed his tenure in December of 2020.

In 1978 Justice Arun Mishra had enrolled as a lawyer and in 1998-99 he was elected as the youngest chairperson of Bar Council of India.

He was appointed in October 1999 as the judge of Madhya Pradesh High Court and later served as the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court and Calcutta High Court.

On July 7, 2014 he was finally elevated to the Supreme Court.
