The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court questioned the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Budgam on how the brick kilns were permitted to function under the eight-kilometre radius from the center of the runway of the Srinagar International Airport calling it to be against the Orders of the Court.

The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Sanjay Dhar while hearing to the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has sought a response from the DC on the application filed by the Indian Air Force (IAF).

IAF had contended that even after the Court’s order of banning brick kilns operation within eight kms of radius from the center of the runway of the Srinagar Airport, numerous are still operating which adversely causes smog being problematic for the operational flights.

The Court also ordered to submit the list of all the kiln mentioning the name of the owners in order to give appropriate notice in order to close down the brick kilns.

Last year, in the month of December the Court directed to ban all the brick kilns functioning around the radius of eight kilometer from the Srinagar International Airport to screen the flight operations without any smog disturbance.
