A significant decision was handed down by a consumer court in Hyderabad, mandating a bus service operator to pay ₹10,000 in compensation to an individual whose confirmed bus ticket was unexpectedly cancelled due to purported bus unavailability.

The panel, comprising President Vakkanti Narasimha Rao and members PVTR Jawahar Babu and Madahavi Sasanakot, ruled that Orange Tours must disburse the stipulated compensation, in addition to reimbursing the ticket cost of ₹55 along with applicable interest.

The situation stems from the complainant’s booking of an air-conditioned bus ticket on August 23, 2022, a reservation that was validated following the payment process with the bus service provider.

However, a sudden cancellation was effected on the grounds of bus unavailability. The service operator assured the complainant of a full refund for the incurred ticket expenses. This unexpected turn of events necessitated the complainant to secure an alternative bus reservation.

The subsequent course of events saw the complaint drawing attention from Legal Humans, a legal aid initiative active on social media platforms, after a tweet spotlighted the issue.

Following meticulous scrutiny of the circumstances, the consumer forum ruled favorably in favor of the complainant, establishing the validity of their grievance.

Advocate Ismail Zabeullah offered indispensable legal support to the complainant throughout the course of the case.
