The Gauhati High Court held that a writ petition challenging the Assam government’s decision to suspend mobile internet services during written tests for Grade III posts on August 28 and September 11 was granted.

The learned Justice Suman Shyam heard the petitioner’s plea, but did not pass any directions regarding the matter.

The petition was filed by social activist Raju Prosad Sarma, regarding the suspension of internet services in 25 out of a total of 35 districts of Assam for four hours on August 21 to curb malpractices during written examinations for Grade IV posts of various state government departments. Strict regulations were ordered under Section 144 CrPC in those districts.

The other two days of the examination are fixed for August 28 and September 11. More than 14.30 lakh candidates are going to give the recruitment test for the vacancy of 30,000 Grade III and IV posts in various government departments. These examinations are conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam.

The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has also directed that internet services be suspended during the examination hours to avoid malpractices during the recruitment process.
