The Farmer Unions are against the order passed by the Supreme Court on 12th January (yesterday) which constitutes the four-member committee appointed.
The farmer unions welcome the stay order passed but stated that they would not participate in the resolution and consultation process, initiated by the four-member committee formed.
They explicitly stated that they would only settle after the revocation of the laws takes place and that the protests would continue until the demand is met.
Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, leading the protests by the farmer Unions and camping at the gates of Delhi stated,
“We noted that the Court has ordered suspension of implementation of the laws temporarily. Suspending the implementation of the laws as an interim measure is welcome, but is not a solution and the farmer unions have not been asking for this solution, given the fact that the implementation can be reinstated… The Government must repeal the laws.”
According to the Morcha, the Court is being misguided by various forces as they observed that the people who are a part of the committee are those who are in support of the three acts.
Krantikari Kisan, the Union President Darshan Pal, stated that during the hearing they had disregarded the idea of the formation of the committee as they knew that in that case the government would take the burden off their shoulders.
Balbir Singh Rajewal of the Bharatiya Kisan Union stated that all members of the 4-member committee appointed were pro-government.
He further stated, “Even principally, we believe committees are just a way to divert attention… (from) the government so that pressure is lifted from them, and we keep fighting in the court.”
He also stated that the Republic day tractor parade to Delhi would continue as planned in a peaceful manner.
Satnam Singh Pannu committee member of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh stated that “Repeal is the demand” and highlighted that the intervention of the court would prolong the issue as the policy matter is between the farmer unions and the government.
