Former Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Manjula Chellur will look over the investigation of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which was formed to probe into the alleged post-poll violence which took place in Bengal.
This decision was taken by a Calcutta High Court Bench of five Judges on Friday.
The Bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal said that former Chief Justice Chellur will oversee the functioning of SIT.
In its Order dated 19th August, the Bench had looked into a bunch of PIL’s filed seeking an independent investigation into the post-poll violence of West Bengal.
The Bench then directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate all the grave crimes like rape and murder.
The Special Investigation Team comprising Suman Bala Sahoo, Soumen Mitra and Ranveer Kumar and all IPS officers of the West Bengal cadre started with its investigation.
The Bench also held that the team will have full discretion to take necessary assistance of any other officer or institutional agency if required.
They also ordered both the teams to submit their reports within six weeks from 19th August.
