On January 29, 2022, the Prosecution in the Delhi Riots Case argued that the Protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) were not organic in nature.

The Arguments were made by Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad in response to the Bail Plea filed by the Accused, Umar Khalid. The Arguments were made before the Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat.

Prasad contended, “Protest sites were at the poorest of the poor areas and narrow areas. The object was to use these populations as fodder.”

He stated that temporary toilets were set up at the Protest sites which indicated that people had been brought from outside to participate in the Protests. He stated that it was considered that the Protest sites would give out a Secular color but it was a façade.

Prasad also mentioned that the Accused persons had used the names of Social Reformers Savitribai Phule and Fatima Sheikh at the Protest sites.

He further stated, “There was no local involvement. They were managed by various teams. They were different teams. We precisely have shown this in our Chargesheet.”

On January 28, 2022, Prasad argued that the Accused, Umar Khalid and the Co-Accused, Sharjeel Imam had aimed to embarrass the Government in front of international media in the name of Protests.
