Delhi High Court’s Justice Varma Praises UPI’s Impact on India’s Technological Revolution

Justice Yashwant Varma, a prominent figure from the Delhi High Court, expressed the transformative impact of technology on various facets of life, highlighting the significant role played by the unified payments interface (UPI) in empowering India and fostering a revolution. Speaking at the Indian Science Competition organized by the Anand and Anand law firm, Justice Varma commended the UPI initiative as a remarkable stride forward.

In his address, Justice Varma emphasized the profound changes brought about by technology in the current era, influencing work dynamics, communication methods, education systems, and learning processes.

He cited the rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI), the internet of things (IoT), and autonomous vehicles as representative of the ongoing fourth industrial revolution.

He further mentioned the commendable efforts of the government, such as the National Innovation Foundation, aimed at nurturing a scientific and inventive spirit within India.

Drawing attention to the positive impact of innovation beyond commercial gains, Justice Varma highlighted the story of Rajendra Yadav, a resident of a small village in Maharashtra.

Yadav’s invention of a sanitation system attached to a tractor resulted in a patent filing through the aforementioned foundations. Justice Varma underscored that innovation goes beyond economic growth, extending to poverty alleviation and overall societal upliftment.

Justice Varma elaborated on the transformation in the education sector, exemplified by the rapid transition to digital education during the COVID-19 lockdown.

He cited a surge in edtech startups and the subsequent valuation of India’s edtech industry at USD 4 billion. Pravin Anand, the managing partner and legal expert at the hosting law firm, stressed the significance of Intellectual Property (IP) rights in safeguarding Indian scientific endeavors and the need for a dedicated legal support system.

Justice Prathiba Singh, also from the Delhi High Court, emphasized the inspirational role of competitions like the Indian Science Competition in motivating the younger generation to pursue scientific endeavors for the betterment of the nation.

Reflecting on the successful landing of ‘Chandrayaan-3,’ she paid tribute to ISRO founder Vikram Sarabhai and his vision for space exploration.

Justice Manmohan of the Delhi High Court lauded the Anand and Anand law firm for its contributions to the fields of IP and science.
