Delhi HC Refused Urgent Hearing on Plea Against Halting of Offering Namaz at Mosque

The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to pass an order for urgent hearing on a plea challenging the alleged stopping of prayers at a mosque situated in the periphery of Qutub Minar by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

The Petition was refused by two Judges, Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Sachin Datta, declined a mentioning made by a lawyer representing the management committee of the mosque, which is stated to be a notified Waqf property.

The Court said, “File it, we are not going to list it today. No way….For vacations, you mention before the concerned registrar. We are not going to direct any  listing for vacations.

The Counsel also brought it to the notice of the Court that the people were regularly offering Namaz at the Mosque but last month, it was suddenly stopped despite there being no formal order or direction. In the Petition filed by Management Committee has challenged the ASI’s authority to stop people from offering the prayers at the mosque and entering it.

The Mughal Mosque is situated at entrance of the Qutub Complex and is different from the nearby Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque.
