The Delhi High Court directed the Central government to produce its memo in a matter relating to the repatriation of Illegal migrants to Bangladesh.
The Court on July 13 ordered the Centre to share the details of the Central office memorandum (OM) in a sealed cover as the matter was confidential.
The order stated, “Let a copy of the OM laying down the procedure for deportation of such migrants as the petitioner be filed before this Court, in a sealed cover, two days before the next date.”
The order was passed on a plea filed by 3 Bangladeshi Nationals wanting to be deported back to their country. They alleged that they were kidnapped, heavily sedated and then illegally brought into India thus they do not possess any valid travel documents.
The State filed a counter-affidavit in this regard stating that since India and Bangladesh had permeable borders, India often faces an influx of Bangladeshi nationals into India by illegal means. It was further mentioned by the Delhi government that the Delhi police detects and identifies such illegal migrants in India and that they can only be repatriated back to Bangladesh after verifying their nationality.
The matter is to be heard on 8th August again where the petitioners through Advocate Kamlesh Kumar Mishra are expected to respond to the government claims.
