Delhi Govt grants Permission to Farmers Protest at Jantar Mantar

The farmers have been granted permission to protest at Jantar Mantar by the Delhi Government only on one condition that the demonstrators would travel from the Singhu border in buses with police escort.

Delhi Government has also tightened up the security arrangements across the city.

The Farmers have been granted to protest till 9th August. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued an official statement, which permits the farmers to conduct protests.

DDMA said, “all guidelines/instructions/SOPs issued by the Government of the NCT of Delhi from time to time concerning the Covid-19 pandemic are to be followed.”

“After multiple rounds of negotiations with farmer bodies like ‘Sanyukt Kisan Morcha’ (SKM) and Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC), and on being assured in writing that they would remain peaceful and with the approval of DDMA, they have been permitted to protest at Jantar Mantar with limited numbers not exceeding two hundred persons for SKM and six persons for KMSC from 1100 hrs up to 1700 hrs daily. They would be escorted to the designated location from Singhu border in buses,” the Delhi Police said.

Delhi Police further stated that the protesting farmers have been advised not to conduct any march because of COVID-19 restrictions and have been told to maintain social distancing and appropriate behaviour while protesting.
