A Delhi court is set to conduct a hearing on August 29 regarding a case connected to the Pul Bangash killings during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, with Congress leader Jagdish Tytler being one of the accused individuals.
The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Vidhi Gupta Anand, adjourned the proceedings for a week, as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) requested time to present arguments concerning an application submitted by Tytler. The application pertains to his request for specific documents.
Tytler participated in the proceedings through a video conferencing arrangement.
“PP (Public Prosecutor) for CBI seeks some time to file reply to the aforesaid application. Be filed by next date of hearing with advance copy to Counsel for accused. Matter be now put up for reply, if any/arguments on the application/further proceedings on August 29,” the judge stated.
On August 4, Tytler was granted anticipatory bail by a sessions court, securing it with a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and one surety of the same amount. The court also imposed certain conditions on him, including refraining from tampering with evidence in the case or leaving the country without permission.
Earlier, on July 26, the magisterial court summoned Tytler for August 5 following the acknowledgment of a supplementary charge sheet in the case. This marked the first time the former union minister was named as an accused.
The Pul Bangash area of Delhi witnessed three casualties and an incident of a gurdwara being set ablaze on November 1, 1984, a day after the assassination of the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, by her Sikh bodyguards.
