A Delhi Court rejected Delhi Police plea to extend the police custody of the Olympic Wrestler Sushil Kumar and his associate Ajay Sharma arrested in connection with the Chhatrasal Stadium murder case of a Former Junior National Wrestling Champion Sagar Dhankar.

Kumar was earlier arrested on 23 May and was sent to 6-day judicial custody which was furthermore extended to 4 days on 29 May.

The Police demanded an extension of 3 days of police custody but the Metropolitan Magistrate Rashmi Gupta rejected the plea and sent the two accused to 9-day judicial custody.

Police alleged that Sushil Kumar is the main culprit and mastermind of the incident which can be supported by a piece of electronic evidence wherein he and his associates are seen beating Dhankar with sticks over the property dispute.

The Court observed that Kumar has already been taken to Bhatinda for the recovery of mobile phones and Haridwar for the recovery of clothes and DVR.

Observing that no new ground has been raised for seeking extension of police custody, the Court rejected the plea.

The Delhi Police has registered an FIR under Section 302, 308, 365, 325, 323, 341, 506, 188, 269, 34 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code and Section 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
