Delhi Bar council announces monetary help for covid positive Advocates

In view of the covid surge and the number of cases that only seem to be burgeoning, the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) has decided that it shall provide financial assistance to its members if they are infected with Covid-19.

BCD President and Senior Advocate Ramesh Gupta made the announcement on Monday. He said that if an advocate is infected with covid and is quarantined at home, then they will be granted financial assistance of Rs. 25,000.

Gupta mentioned that if an advocate has been admitted to a hospital due to testing positive and he is not the beneficiary of any insurance, then such an advocate will be given financial assistance of Rs 50,000.

BCD President Gupta said that in order to avail the financial assistance, the lawyers will have to send the documents such as report of corona contamination, if they are hospitalized, the hospital documents, their ID proof, and bank account information.

Advocate Ramesh Gupta said that after the lockdown was imposed in the wake of Corona last year, financial assistance of Rs 5,000 was given to all the lawyers who were facing financial crisis and Rs 25,000 to those who got infected.

Gupta stated that an amount of Rs 13 crore was disbursed to the lawyers at that time. He further clarified that currently only the corona infected members are being helped owing to paucity of resources.
