Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shantanu Tyagi ordered for a First Information Report (FIR) to be lodged against Senior Advocate and member of the Indian National Congress Salman Khurshid, for making a comparison between Hindutva and the terror group Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS), in his book.

The case pertains to a Complaint filed by one Shubhangi Tyagi against the Former Minister of External Affairs Salman Khurshid, under Section 156(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure for hurting the sentiments of Hindus by making the aforementioned remarks.

The complainant earlier filed an application for the lodging of a First Information Report (FIR) against Mr. Khurshid but did not receive any response from the Uttar Pradesh Police. Hence, the complainant moved to the Court.

The Magistrate in the Order stated, “From a perusal of the application and the arguments raised in its support, I am of the opinion that cognizable offences are made out against Salman Khurshid.”

On November 25, 2021 the Delhi High Court rejected a plea which sought to Ban Salman Khurshid’s book- ‘Sunrise Over Ayodhya: Nationhood in Our Times’. Justice Yashwant Verma of the Delhi High Court stated, “If you don’t agree with the author, don’t read it. Please tell people book is badly authored, read something better.”

On November 17, 2021 a Delhi Civil Judge Preeti Parewa rejected the Petition which sought for an interim injunction against publication, distribution and selling of the book.
