Congress demanded the Supreme Court of India, a monitored probe into the matter of alleged irregularities in the purchase of land at Ayodhya by the Ram Temple Trust.

The Congress urged this over the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the context of corruption allegations in the Ram Temple land deal and asked the Supreme court to regulate this matter under their supervision.

Over a virtual press conference, Congress General Secretary and Party’s Chief Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala alleged that a BJP leader, Deep Narayan, bought 890 square metres of land in Ayodhya for ₹ 20 lakh in February and sold it to the Temple Trust for a whopping ₹ 2.5 crore, making a profit of 1,250 per cent in only 79 days.

Further, he called the alleged irregularity in the purchase of land a ‘big scam’ and said that, “The trust was established on the direction of the Supreme Court, the Court should take cognizance of the issue and investigate the matter. The amount received as donations and expenses made by the trust should also be audited under the supervision of the Supreme Court.”

The Congress had earlier alleged that land purchased for ₹ 2 crores was sold for ₹ 18.5 crores to the Trust within minutes.

The party had cited the land deed registered on March 18 this year to argue its case for a Court-monitored probe.

Posing questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Mr Surjewala asked, “What is the reason that Modi-Adityanath Ji is completely silent on taking action against the sinners who openly looted funds for the construction of the Ram temple?”

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh, also made similar allegations over the matter of the Ram Mandir land deal.
