Emphasizing that the true potency of the judiciary lies in its accessibility to the common populace, Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud underscored that individuals confronted with arbitrary arrests, threats of property demolition, or unlawful seizure of assets should discover relief within the legal system.

During the Independence Day event organized by the SC Bar Association, the Chief Justice articulated that courts establish a secure democratic arena where individuals can seek refuge for the safeguarding of their fundamental rights and freedoms.

While he refrained from specifying any particular case, his remarks resonate with recent instances where residences linked to the accused or their families have been razed by bulldozers under the banner of “illegal constructions.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court for rendering its judgments accessible to litigants in regional languages, CJI Chandrachud, who was present at the event, reciprocated the appreciation with a gesture of folded hands.

He further articulated, “I am of the belief that the true strength of our legal system lies in ensuring access to justice and fostering the conviction within every individual that instances such as arbitrary arrests, looming demolitions, or unwarranted property seizures can be addressed and articulated before the judges of the Supreme Court. We have embarked upon a comprehensive strategy to ensure that the future of the Indian judiciary remains all-encompassing and available to every individual, irrespective of their position in the queue.
