The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday registered nine cases related to Post-poll violence in West Bengal.

According to Government sources, the four special units of the Investigating Agency tasked with probing cases of violence have shifted their units from Kolkata to crime scenes across the State.

More cases are under the process of registration with some of them being handed over by the State Government.

The Calcutta High Court ordered a ‘Court-monitored’ CBI inquiry into cases of murder, rape and attempted Rape committed during the Bengal Election process and set up a special investigation team led by a Former Supreme Court Judge to look into additional Criminal cases.

A five-judge Bench directed the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the State government and any other commission or committee that received complaints to hand over all data pertaining to murder and crime against women cases to the CBI.

However, cases not linked to Poll Violence would have to be handed back to the Local Police.

The Court stated, “Any obstruction to investigation shall be taken seriously.”
