Calcutta HC: Allocates 1000 Laptops for Judicial Officers in West Bengal and Andaman & Nicobar Islands

In a significant initiative aimed at enhancing judicial and administrative efficiency, the Calcutta High Court conducted a program for the distribution of 1000 new laptops to judicial officers in West Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam presided over the ceremony, joined by members of the High Court Computer Committee, including Justice Tapabrata Chakroborty, Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya, and Justice Debangshu Basak.

Chief Justice Sivagnanam emphasized the pivotal role of technology in the administration of justice, announcing that the laptops were a gift from the High Court to judicial officers for the ongoing puja season, aiming to facilitate their duties.

He acknowledged the boon of court computerization in improving case disposal, especially during the challenges posed by the pandemic. The Chief Justice highlighted that the initiative marked the first time such an endeavor had been undertaken by the Calcutta High Court.

The laptops, equipped with advanced specifications from HP, were acquired at a significant cost, according to the Chief Justice. While emphasizing their potential to enhance judicial and administrative functions, he stressed the importance of taking proper care of these valuable tools.

Justice Tapabrata Chakroborty and Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya also addressed the gathering.

Justice Chakroborty urged officers to utilize the laptops effectively to improve both the quality and quantity of case disposal while emphasizing responsible ownership.

Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya highlighted the laptops as crucial resources for acquiring knowledge and empowering judicial officers. She urged officers to reciprocate by ensuring that justice reaches all corners of their districts and beyond.
