Bombay High Court rejects urgent hearing of Kangana Ranaut’s Passport renewal Plea

Greeva Garg –

The Bombay High Court refused an urgent hearing of plea on Kangana Ranaut’s passport renewal application. The Court blew away her application stating that, “She should have been more vigilant. If there was urgency, she would have approached you with all the details. Your application is vague”.

The Court allowed her to amend the application and scheduled the hearing in this matter on June 25.

Ranaut sought renewal of her passport by the authorities, which expires in September, as she needs to go to Hungary for shooting of a film. The passport authority refused to process the application and asked to approached High Court for directions.

A bench of Justice Prasanna Varale and Justice Surendra Tavade asked Ranaut’s lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui for the refusal order. Her lawyer said that, the rejection was verbal and that the objection was not raised in writing. Apparently, the renewal has been denied over a pending case of sedition charges registered against her.

The Bandra Police had registered an FIR against Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel in October 2020 on a magistrate’s order for her blatant and arbitrary comments creating communal disharmony.

Ranaut and her sister already approached the High Court, seeking quash of that FIR. The Court ordered to not take any coercive action against them, the FIR against them remains.

When her lawyer sought an earlier date of hearing, the bench observed it was only a film shoot and her schedule could be adjusted.
