The Bombay High Court has ordered Two Private Contractors chosen by the Maharashtra Government to install CCTV cameras in Police Stations to appear before them on Friday to explain why the work has not been completed.

This came after the Court was informed that only half of the installation work had been completed thus far, despite the fact that the time allotted to complete the Job had expired.

A Petition challenging an Arbitrary Notice issued by the Sinnar Police Station in Maharashtra is being heard by the Bench of Justices SJ Kathawalla and Milind Jadhav.

The processes should have been completed within 22 weeks of the contract’s beginning date last year. The two contractors have now requested a time frame of 16 weeks to complete the job.

Following threats issued by the Petitioners to the Complainants, the Notice was issued under Section 149 (prevention of cognisable offence) of the Code of Criminal Procedure to maintain law and order.

A Report on the progress of the installation work, which was being done by two contractors, Sujata Computers Pvt Ltd, Pune, and Javi Systems India Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru, had been given to the bench.

The State has allocated Rs 60 Crore to install CCTV cameras in Police Stations across the State, with the two Contractors receiving Rs 23 crore already.

The State Government attempted to Justify the delay by claiming that the contractors were ‘Importing High-Quality Cameras.’ As a result of the Bench’s Response,

“Is it Imported? They are Chinese, aren’t they? Isn’t India Equipped with High-Quality CCTV Cameras?”

The Case will be heard again by the Bench on March 11.
