Mumbai Civil Court rejects plea of the adopted son of Gangubai Kathiawadi, Babuji Rawji Shah against the film “Gangubai Kathiawadi” created by Renowned film director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and lead actress Alia Bhatt.
The petition stated that there was an indecent representation of the Gangubai, with the son also having an ongoing petition against the book the movie is based on.
The book titled, “The Mafia Queens of Mumbai” and written by is stated to be defamatory, violating privacy, self-respect and dignity in the petition.
The son also sought an injunction against the writers S.Hussain Zaidi, and Jane Borges, stopping them from defaming and/or publishing, selling, alienating, assigning or creating any 3rd party rights with the novel.
However, the Bhansali crew have fired back stating that the petition was barred by limitation since the book was published in 2011 and the petition filed in December 2020, exceeded the time period.
They also argued that there being no legal evidence towards Rawji Shah being the actual son of the woman in question, it stood to show that he had no locus standi on the matter. Finally stating that pushing a petition against Bhatt, a mere artist, was wrongly adding her as a party.
