Ashneer Grover, former co-founder and managing director of BharatPe, has taken legal action against the fintech major by filing a plea with the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in the capital. Grover alleges oppression and mismanagement within the company, and the plea has been submitted under Sections 241 and 242 of the Companies Act 2013.

The case was heard on December 6, and the next hearing is scheduled for January 11, as reported by sources. This development comes after the Delhi High Court imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on Ashneer Grover last month in response to alleged defamatory social media posts against BharatPe.

The court, despite accepting Grover’s apology and undertaking, decided to levy the fine, emphasizing that such actions cannot be taken for granted.

Earlier, the court had instructed both Ashneer Grover and officials of BharatPe not to engage in “unparliamentary” or “defamatory” language against each other.

Following an FIR filed by Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing against Grover and his family members, BharatPe submitted an application, asserting that Grover continued to make defamatory statements on Twitter.

In a separate defamation suit with 2,800 pages, BharatPe is seeking damages worth Rs 88.67 crore from Grover, his wife Madhuri Jain Grover, and his brother. The suit alleges cheating and misappropriation of funds by the former managing director.
