An Anticipatory Bail lodged by Nitesh Rane, a member of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and son of Union Minister Narayan Rane, in an Attempt to Murder case was rejected by the Bombay High Court on Monday.

The order was issued by Justice CV Bhadang, who also extended the Maharashtra government’s assurance of no coercive action against Rane until January 27, 2022, to allow Rane to petition in the Supreme Court.

Rane, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA, is alleged of being the main conspirator in an Attempt to Murder of a Shiv Sena member on December 18, 2021, in the Kankavli region of Maharashtra.

According to Rane’s petition, the FIR was lodged against him because he allegedly mocked Shiv Sena leader and State Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray.

Advocate Niteen Pradhan, who represented Rane, argued that the FIR was filed solely to prevent Rane from participating in the Sindhudurg Co-operative Bank district elections scheduled for December 30, 2021.

He went on to say that the postponement in filing the FIR indicated the same thing.

Pradhan told the Court that Rane was conducting an investigation and had appeared for statement recording. He claimed that after a four-hour interrogation, Rane was allowed to return home, but was later informed of a possible arrest, which led to the filing of the current plea.

In opposition to the petition, Special Counsel Sudeep Pasbola informed the Court that Rane met with his close associate Sachin Satpute to show a photo of the Victim, Santosh Parab, who had allegedly been bad mouthing Rane and his family.
