Allahabad HC orders UP Govt to give their response to the PIL on removal of liquor shops

The Allahabad High Court sought the response of the Uttar Pradesh government to the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) requesting eradication of Licensed Liquor Shop situated in front of a School, Hospital and 50 years old temple and proper Residential Area.

The Petition was filed In-Person by Ashok Kumar Shukla which requested for instant removal of the country-made liquor shop, foreign liquor shop and beer shop at Hari Bazar, Balaganj, Hardoi Road, Lucknow.

The Petition was being heard by the Bench of Justice Ramesh Singh and Justice Vivek Varma.

The Petition clearly mentioned that according to Uttar Pradesh Number and Location of Excise Shops Rules, 1968 which states that, “Liquor shops cannot be operated within 50 meters in the Municipal Area.”

The Petitioner asserted that the License holder of the Liquor Shop is a very influential person and she is operating the shop within 25-35 meters from the St. Joseph School, J.P.S Children Hospital, an Old Temple and a Residential Area that is the violation of the mentioned rules.

The Bench considering the Plea, asked the Standing Counsel representing the State Government to take the required instructions in the matter till the next hearing that is December 15.
