Four new Additional High Court Judges were sworn in at Madras High Court and took Office charges.
Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee presided over the swearing-in ceremony in the High Court premises itself.
After the inclusion of these 4 Judges, the total strength of the High Court has risen from 56 to 60, whereas the total capacity of the Court is 75 Judges.
The Four Judges who were sworn in are Justices Sundaram Srimathi, D Bharatha Chakravarthy, R Vijayakumar and Mohammed Shafiq.
The appointment of Justice Sundaram has resulted in the highest number of Women Judges in the Madras High Court in the whole country and that is 14 women Judges.
Also, Srimathi has completed her studies at Trichy Government Law College, and she was enrolled as an Advocate in October 1989.
Apart from this, D Bharatha Chakravarthy who has experience of 27 years of practising, was enrolled as an Advocate on July 15, 1993.
Bharatha has also worked as a Public Prosecutor for the Union Territory of Puducherry for the High Court.
Bharatha has represented public sector undertakings such as Puducherry Slum Clearance Board, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Sciences and many more.
R Vijayakumar whose specialization is civil, criminal, constitutional and services law, was enrolled as an Advocate on October 13, 1993.
Vijayakumar has experience of 28 years and he has also practised at Principal Bench of High Court in Chennai and Madurai Bench of the Court.
The fourth Judge who got appointed is Mohammed Shafiq. Shafiq, has worked as a Government Pleader for taxes, is a taxation law expert.
It should be noted here that appointment of these 4 Judges happened after the Union government issued a notification appointing these 4 Advocates as Additional Judges to the High Court
