Brazil’s Supreme Court has opened an inquiry into comments made by President Jair Bolsonaro falsely claiming that Covid-19 vaccines might increase the chance of contracting Aids.

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro commented, “People who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 are developing Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Aids) much faster than expected” during a live stream on multiple social media platforms.

Due to this ambiguous statement, both Facebook as well as YouTube temporarily suspended his account.

Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said that Mr Bolsonaro “Used the Modus Operandi of mass dissemination schemes in social networks” which called for further investigation.

The COVID-19 vaccines are approved by the health regulators and are safe for people with AIDS according to the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV (HIV is the causative virus of AIDS).

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes stated, “In order for judicial supervision to be carried out in an effective and comprehensive manner, it is indispensable that documents be presented showing the status of the investigation in question.”

A Senate investigative committee has requested the Brazilian Supreme Court to punish the President for crime against humanity as he is said to have taken the pandemic lightly causing stalled economic recovery resulting in around 6,00,000 deaths in Brazil.
