Delhi High Court declares Holiday on September 8th for preparations of G-20 Summit

The High Court of Delhi, issued an official notification, declaring a holiday on Friday, September 8, 2023. This decision comes in light of the preparations for the upcoming G-20 Summit, scheduled to be held on September 9th and 10th, 2023.

The notification, bearing the reference number 82/G-4/Genl.-I/DHC and dated September 1, 2023, has been released to inform all stakeholders and concerned parties about the change in the court’s operational schedule.

According to the notification, this holiday applies not only to the High Court of Delhi itself but also to all subordinate courts under its jurisdiction.

In place of the holiday on September 8th, the High Court has ordered that Saturday, December 16, 2023, will be designated as a Court sitting day for the High Court of Delhi. Additionally, the Courts subordinate to the Delhi High Court will conduct their proceedings on Saturday, December 9, 2023, which is the Second Saturday of that month.

This rescheduling of Court sitting days is a necessary step to accommodate the G-20 Summit preparations and ensure the smooth functioning of the judiciary. It is imperative to provide ample time for the necessary security arrangements and logistical preparations leading up to this high-profile international event.

Furthermore, the notification also clarifies that all cases listed for hearing before the High Court of Delhi, including those for which orders or judgments are reserved, on Friday, September 8, 2023, will be adjourned to Monday, September 11, 2023. These cases will be taken up on the rescheduled date, in addition to the cases already fixed for that day.

The decision to reschedule court sitting days and declare a holiday is in the best interest of facilitating the successful organization of the G-20 Summit, which will see the participation of world leaders and diplomats from across the globe.
