Two antiviral drugs- Remdesivir and Favipiravir which are used in treating COVID-19 patients has been a matter of debate among medical experts about their usage in curing patients.

Now the Supreme Court has asked central government about the usage of two medicines without any approval.

The top court headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde was hearing a plea seeking registration of an FIR by the CBI against ten Indian pharmaceutical firms for manufacturing and selling these two medicines for treating COVID-19 patients allegedly without valid licences.

The court has issued notice to the centre regarding the same and has sought for a reply within 4 weeks. Advocate ML Sharma who is one of the petitioner as well has argued that World Health Organization(WHO) has stated the medicines not to be officially declared as curing medicines for the deadly corona virus.

The bench said that it is only going to make central government aware of it and therefore issuing notice.
