A group of 26 doctors have approached the Supreme Court requesting to postpone the INI CET 2021 exam which is proposed to be conducted on 16 June.

The petitioners contended that it is unfair to conduct the exam on a very short notice of 19 days as against the NEET PG exam to which an earlier notification had clearly stated that at least a month’s time will be given to the candidates for preparation.

The petitioners argued that the doctors are still on duty and one of the petitioners is still battling Covid-19 in the ICU. In addition to this, not only that all the doctors are not fully vaccinated, but some have not even received their first dose.

The petitioners called this notification arbitrary and irrational in the times of Covid-19 which directly negotiates with their fundamental right to life and liberty.

The petitioners argued that the exam would require many doctors practising in different states to travel and face travel restrictions thereby increasing the risk of life of not only themselves but of others too.

The petitioners also pointed out that various state board exams and CBSE exams have already been postponed and conducting of INI CET at such short notice, in times of pandemic, are against their right to life.

In conclusion, the doctors prayed that they are not against conducting the exam but are requesting for a mere extension of time for the exam.

The exam is conducted for only 800 seats and more than 80,000 candidates appear every year.
