CONTROVERSIES/CASES:

The Bangaluru family court has rejected an application by interim actress Mythriya Gowda seeking the declaration of Karthik Gowda, the son of Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda, as her husband. Mythri’s allegations of his marriage to Karthik were first made on August 27 when he was engaged to another girl.

Karthik has denied the allegations. But she filed a police complaint the same day and later went to the family court to prevent her from remarrying.

However, the court found no evidence of suspicion of marriage between the two.

The actor had said that the couple were married in Karthik’s family home and that the alleged marriage took place with Karthik tying a piece of neck around his neck. According to tradition, turmeric is considered to be equivalent to mangalasutra.

However, the court did not purchase the arguments presented by the actor. Rejecting the grounds that it was a legal marriage, the court ruled that the requirements for a Hindu marriage as a saptapadi were inconsistent. The marriage also had no witnesses, and the elders were not in their family at the time of the alleged marriage. After an argument broke out, the actor had revealed phone conversations between him and Karthik to substantiate his claim that they lived as husband and wife.
