REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT– Led by Shah, the BJP was successful in the parliamentary elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jammu, and Kashmir, Jharkhand, and Assam from 2014 to 2016. He also led the party to an overwhelming victory in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Gujarat, and marked the start of the party in Manipur.

Amit Shah is the current Minister of Home Affairs and was also the President of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) till the year 2020.

BACKGROUND- Amit Shah was born to Anil Chandra Shah and Late Kusumben Anil Chandra Shah in the year 1964. He married Sonalben Amitbhai Shah a social activist by profession in the year 1987 and they have a son Jay Shah he is the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and also the president of the Asian Cricket Council.

UPBRINGING & EDUCATION– Mr. Shah was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra and later he moved to Ahmedabad for studying Biochemistry at CU Shah Science College, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad.

WALK OF LIFE– Amit Shah started his career in politics at a very young age. In college, he became a member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). In the year 1983, he joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad student wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the year 1984-1985. In the year 1987, he became an activist of the BJP’s youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).

He was also the National treasurer of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and then State Secretary and State Vice-President of Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during this tenure. In the Lok Sabha Elections of 1989, he was given the task of managing the election campaign of BJP’s L.K. Advani from Ahmedabad constituency.

He was also the election in-charge of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee from the Gandhinagar constituency. He contested assembly polls from the Sarkhej constituency and won by a margin of nearly 25,000 votes. In the year 2001 became the national convener of BJP’s cooperative committee.

In the year 2002, he won for the third time from the Sarkhej constituency. In the year 2007, he was again elected from the Sarkhej constituency. He also served as minister of Home, Transport, Prohibition Parliamentary Affairs, Law, and Excise. He was also the Chairman of the Gujarat State Chess Association.

In the year 2007, he became the Vice-Chairman of Gujarat State Cricket Association during the same period became the Chairman of Ahmedabad Central Board of Cricket. In the year 2012, he won from the newly carved Narayanpura assembly segment. In 2013 he was made General Secretary of the BJP.

BJP made him the President of the party in the year 2014 due to his work in the crucial Lok Sabha polls in 2014. Within a year he took over as BJP’s National President and served till 2019. In 2019 he was made the Minister of Home Affairs and continued the position till now.

CONTROVERSIES– He has been involved in many controversies; Amit Shah faced charges of having masterminded the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Sheikh but the CBI gave him a clean chit. He was also accused of tempering pieces of evidence and influencing witnesses in the Gujarat Riots.

Amit Shah was also accused of the murder of Ishrat Jahan. Cruel violence between Hindus and Muslims in September 2013 took place in which 40 people were killed and tens of thousands were displaced for his statements which prompted hatred and ill-will between the religions.
