The Kerala Judicial Officers’ Association has moved to the Supreme Court of India claiming that the judicial officers are receiving lesser salaries than Court staff in the Subordinate Courts in Kerala.

The Kerala Judicial Officers’ Association is a body constituting Judges of District and Subordinates Courts in Kerala.

The association said, after the State Government implemented the recommendations of the Eleventh Pay Revision Commission on Revision of Pay and Allowances of State Government of Employees and teachers, and subordinate Court staff, it resulted in great disparity between pay scale of Judicial and Court officers.

The association further submitted that this mechanism of judiciary has disrespected the positions of judicial persons in the Court.

The Court revised the pay structure of court officers in progression to the State Government’s order dated February 10, 2021, after which Eleventh Pay Revision Commission provided its recommendations.

The Supreme Court constituted a National Judicial Pay Commission in 2017 to review the pay scale and emoluments provided to the officers working in the Subordinate Judiciary system all over the country.

However, based on the examination of commission, the Second National Judicial Pay Commission recommended every State Government to pass and implement orders for pay structure in judiciary, which was agreed by the states.

The association sought urgent impleading of 2015 All India Judges Association case, pending before the Supreme Court over similar issue relating to judiciary.

The association also emphasized upon this disparity issue in pay scales prevailing in every State as per the recommendations of Second National Judicial Pay Commission, and sought for urgent intervention of Apex Court.
