UP Govt orders inquiry into Alleged Ayodhya land purchase by Politicians, Bureaucrats

Uttar Pradesh Government ordered the Revenue Department to initiate an Investigation into matter related to the Allegations made against elected politicians and government officials and their family members, about them buying land parcels in Ayodhya after the Supreme Court’s Verdict related to the construction Ram Mandir.

The Additional Chief Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Government Navneet Sehgal stated that, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath directed the Revenue Department to initiate an Investigation relating to the aforementioned land purchases.

In vide of a report of The Indian Express, it has been found that around 15 people bought land parcels near the Ram Mandir after the Verdict of the Apex Court, among which most of them were politicians, bureaucrats and their family members and also the Revenue Officers who cleared these transactions.

The Report published on December 22, 2021 revealed that the Maharishi Ramayan Vidyapeeth Trust (MRVT) sold land plots to relatives of Government officers who were assigned to look into the matters pertaining to the trust about irregularities in land transfers made from Dalit villagers.

The Report stated, “The plots purchased by relatives of these officials don’t fall in the 21 bighas under dispute but local officials say that the fact that the seller in all these cases is MRVT, named as an Accused, raises questions of propriety.”

In March, 2021 the Divisional Commissioner of Ayodhya, M P Agrawal approved of a panel’s report that urged for an investigation against the MRVT and government officials for “Illegally transferring land (of a Scheduled Caste Person) through an unregistered donation Deed.”

A case was filed in this regard on August 6, 2021. Now the aforementioned Report Alleges that the relatives of M P Agrawal are also one of the buyers of the land parcels near the Ram Mandir, which was sold by the MRVT.
